Logically, 4K HDR TVs are the stars nowadays, but we can also find cheap and good-quality 1080p TVs that fulfill specific purposes: if you need a TV for the Nintendo Switch or for watching DTV channels in the kitchen or the bedroom, for example.

Let’s take a look at the best Samsung TVs of 2017. We have organized them by price range to make it easy for you to find the ones that best suit your needs.

As you will see, Samsung TVs have a series of letters in their names. If they start with UE, they are sold within the European Union. In this article, we are interested in TVs that say M or MU, as this means that they have been manufactured in 2017. For example, Samsung UE65MU6205KXXC. If they have a K or and J, they were manufactured in 2016 and 2015, respectively. QLED TVs are the exception, as they have their own names, they but always have the letter Q. The best Samsung TVs of 2017

Almost every Samsung TV of 2017 is 4K, Ultra HD or UHD. The three terms are the same, and they tell us that their resolution is 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. 4K TVs can come either with or without HDR. This is a new technology that provides more realistic colors and better contrast between blacks and whites when we watch compatible content. Samsung keeps selling some 1080p or Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) resolution models, but they are not widely used anymore.

The display’s size and technology are mainly what set the quality and the price of the Samsung TVs of 2017. Along with the classic LED TVs, Samsung is committed to QLED, the brand’s proprietary technology that aims to compete with OLED, but at a lower price:

4. Less than €500

Is it possible to buy a 4K Samsung TV with HDR, made in 2017, for less than €500? It certainly is, although we would have to give up some things, such as a large screen size, QLED, 10-bit panels, etc.

Samsung UE32M5005

Let’s begin with the lowest budget. You do not want to spend a lot of money and you are not interested in 4K content, right? Take a look at this Samsung UE32M5005, it only costs €285:

It is a 32-inch 1080p LED TV with two HDMI and one USB connectors, the latter works as a built-in player, meaning that you can save your videos in a flash drive and watch them directly on the TV. It uses the Ultra Clean View technology to clean the image, and it has Samsung’s own frequency and contrast optimization technologies. This is a good TV to watch DTV channels, Netflix and Blu-ray movies, connect the Nintendo Switch, or put it in the kitchen or the bedroom.

If you are looking for a little more advanced Full HD TV, the 43-inch Samsung UE43M5505 slightly improves the sharpness when the image moves, it has better contrast, 3 HDMI and 2 USB ports, and it is a Smart TV. It costs €493 in Amazon.

Samsung UE43MU6125, 4K with HDR technology

Mission accomplished. Here you have a 4K Samsung TV with HDR, made in 2017, for less than €500. This model has a 43-inch display with 4K resolution and HDR10, the most widely used HDR standard. It has a slim design, the UHD Dimming technology that manages the brightness, color and contrast independently on hundreds of zones across the display, and full support for Smart TV with Smart Hub.

The Samsung UE43MU6125 TV has 3 auto-detect HDMI and 2 USB ports. It has a PQI rating of 1,300. PQI is Samsung’s own rating for measuring the image quality based on the brightness, contrast, color and frequency. The higher the value, the better.

The TV connects to the Internet via Wi-Fi and LAN, it is compatible with Wi-Fi Direct and you can send content from your phone to the TV through DLNA. It accepts hard drives and USB recording, and it has a gaming mode for consoles.

It does not have HDR optimization for the LED lighting nor the 10-bit panel featured on the most expensive models, so the HDR will not work at its best, but it is a real 4K HDR Samsung TV. Its original price point is €659, but you can find it on Amazon at just €489.

3. Between €500 and €1,000

In this price range, we keep going for a basic 4K HDR TV. The LED panel will only be lit from the edges (Edge-lit Backlight and not Full-array Backlight that lights the display entirely from its back), so the HDR is less impressive. But the image quality will be highly acceptable when you watch 4K content.

Samsung UE55MU6645

The curved TVs trend has already died, if it ever existed, but they are still being manufactured. In fact, Samsung is the manufacturer that opts the most for them because it offers curved versions of almost all of its models. If you like this type of panel, here you have one of the most affordable.

The Samsung UE55MU6645 has a 55-inch ultra slim LED VA panel with 4K resolution and HDR, a PQI rating of 1,700 and technologies to improve the image like UHD Dimming or PurColor, the latter mixes primary and secondary colors to get better colors. The Auto Depth Enhancer creates a feeling of depth for the objects by adjusting the contrast. The Active Crystal Color enables us to improve the brightness and the contrast to get 20% more color while consuming 25% less power, as well as adding an extra light source in the form of a blue LED. In this model, the real frequency is 50 Hz, so it is not the best TV to play video games, as they require 60 Hz.

From this range all of the Samsung televisions they have the Smart Hub function with Tizen, that allows controlling all connected devices with a single command, including by voice or by cellphone. It is compatible with DLNA and Miracast.

Samsung UE49MU7005

It meets the majority of the high range requirements as a 10-Bit 4k panel: Samsung’s main image enhancement technologies, HDR improved with a better brightness and contrast ratio, and a video game mode.

All of the cables are hidden in the base, and with the One Connect mode all external devices connect in the same place, while a single cable goes to the television. 2. Between 1.000 and 2.OOO

In this price range we have to start to demand aspects like the design and image quality. The 10-bit panel is essential, just like better brightness and contrast.

Samsung UE55MU8005

This model has a design that Samsung calls 360 degrees, because it is beautiful from any angle. With an ultrathin frame, an elegant base and a clean rear panel, where one does not see the cables, the design of the Samsung UE55MU8005 is spectacular.

Mounted on a 10-bit LED VA panel of 55 inches with 4K resolution that offers extraordinary brightness, which is perfect for using the well-lit environments. The HDR has been improved with that which Samsung calls HDR1000, but it is only HDR10 with a contribution of brightness (1000 nits) and for extra contrast, to strengthen the HDR effect. The current frequency is 120 Hz, but be aware that in the 49 inch model it lowers to 60 Hz.

The image quality is very good, better than the IPS panels, although like every VA panel, the vision angle is low, one loses image quality if one does not look at the TV from the front. Highlighted also for its low input lag, which makes it a good TV for playing videogames.

Samsung QE55Q7F

The QLED technology is already here. Have Samsung completed the promise of offering an alternative OLED at a more affordable price? One an say yes, but with nuances. Thanks to the Quantum Dot, Samsung has gotten a color and contrast at OLED’s level, covering 100% of the DCI-P3 color spectrum, but with a very superior brightness. The HDR is also very spectacular. But it is still LED technology, and that is noticed in the blacks, more washed out than the OLED, and in the vision angles, better than in LED but still far from OLED.

If you have the budget, it is worth it to buy QLED TV before a LED. The Sansung QB55Q7F is possibly the lesser Samsung 2017 TV in terms of quality / price. Mounted on a QLED 10-bit screen of 55 inches with 4K and improved HDR10. The brightness level reaches 1500 nits, and implements the most advanced Samsung image technologies, like Q Contrast or Q Color. Reaching the Ultra HD Premium standard, it comes with 4 HDMI, and one can hang it on the wall like a painting (it doesn’t stick out).

With respect to the A8 and Q9 it has slightly less brightness, but as we have said about this appearance is a fair amount better than an OLED, so it stays at a great level. And the price is excellent, right now you have it on Amazon for only 1748 euros. And on top of that you get a free Samsung Galaxy S8. Here you have the details.

  • Screen size: 55 inches
  • Resolution: UHD 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels)

1. More than 2.000€

In Samsung’s high range you will enjoy the best image quality with some amazing levels of luminescence.

Samsung QE55Q8CAMTXXC

On icisnet we had the opportunity over the past week to try the curved QLED Samsung QE55Q8C television. We loved its design, the brightness and the image coloring, capable of reaching a luminescence of 1500 nits, and the HDR. As is logical on all the panels except the OLED blacks are not perfect, and we also note some light leakages. But the improvement with respect to the LED is spectacular.

We also liked very much how it rescales 1080p content. Not as much the TDT standard or the DVD, but we are talking about rescaling a resolution 16 times lower. The distance command One Remote has seemed to us the best command that we have tried, and also highlight the good performane in videogames, with Steam streaming from the integrated computer in the TV.

One of the best Samsung TVs of 2017 if we take into account that the Samsung QE55Q8C costs slightly more than 2000 euros, something unthinkable in panels of this quality in a couple of years.

  • Screen size: 55 Inches
  • Resolution: UHD 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels)
  • Screen format and type: 16.9 / QLED 10-bit

  • PQI: 3200
  • Operating system: Yes. Tizen

  • Connectivity: Yes. Wi-Fi LAN, Bluetooth
  • Connections: 4 HDMI / 3 USB / 1 optical / Cl Slot
  • Dimensions and weight with support: 1225.3 x 790.2 x 300.8 mm / 20 kg
  • Price: 2112 euros

Samsung QE65Q9F

If money is no issue, this is the best Samsung TV of 2017 that you can buy. Although there is a model of 88 inches, we stay with the Samsung QE65Q9F of 65 inches, not to exceed the figure of 4000€…

Its price is daunting, but it can compete with the most powerful OLEDs on the market. Its QLED screen of 65 inches in mounted on a Super VA panel with a maximum luminescence of 2000 nits. It is ideal for watching TV in a bright room, like a bar or family room.

The Q Engine technology, combined with the Quantum Dots and an improvement of the vision angles of the Super VA panel, get an outstanding color accuracy and HDR (including the support of the new HDR10+), which even beats the majority of the OLED. Its weak points are the same as in the rest of the QLED range (lower angles than OLED and blacks are not perfect), but we are talking about a true alternative to OLED, at a lower price. Impressive!

  • Screen size: 65 inches
  • Resolution: UHD 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels)
  • Screen format and type: 16.9 / QLED SVA 10-bit
  • HDR Compatible: Yes. HDR10 and HLG

  • Connections: 4 HDMI / 3 USB / 1 optical / Cl slot
  • Dimensions and weight with support: 1449.7 x 862.5 x 306.4 mm / 30 kg
  • Price: 3999 euros
